Rumors vs Reality
Rumor: PNM numbers are a ranking system. A higher number means a lower ranking.
Reality: PNM numbers are simply used for ID purposes and are assigned in order of when you register.
Rumor: New members of sororities are pressured into drinking and going out.
Reality: All Davis Panhellenic chapters are held to a no hazing policy. We strive to ensure you feel welcomed and comfortable in your new chapters. Sisterhood and Philanthropy are just a few of the key values of Panhellenic chapters.
Rumor: I need to have certain clothes or dress a certain way for recruitment.
Reality: Davis operates on a values based recruitment meaning that we want you to find a chapter that best matches your values and goals. Your outfit can be a great way to express your unique personality! We do create a recruitment lookbook with general guidelines on outfit ideas for each day of recruitment, but we want to make sure that you feel great and comfortable in your outfit more than anything else
Rumor: YikYak and other websites are accurate places for Greek life information.
Reality: A lot of the information on these websites are inaccurate or biased. They can often misrepresent chapters and their values. Our values based recruitment style is meant to allow you to form your own opinion on chapters based on quality interactions and conversations.
Rumor: Rushing after your first year puts you at a disadvantage.
Reality: We encourage PNMs in any year to go through recruitment. Many transfer students come into Davis as third and fourth years and join Greek life. It is never too late to find a community of supportive and kind women!
Rumor: Being in a sorority takes up all your time and doesn't let you do any other extracurriculars.
Reality: Most of our chapter members are highly involved in other clubs, organizations, jobs, labs and so much more while maintaining high GPAs. Being in a chapter is a time commitment, but members are always encouraged and supported in their other leadership and involvement roles.
