March's 2nd Place Winner
The morning of Bid Day, I was extremely anxious. I was not sure what to expect for the rest of the day but what I did know for sure was that this was just the beginning of something that I would not regret for the rest of my life. After frantically getting ready that morning and heading outside my dorm, I witnessed a pool of girls each of us dressed in jean shorts and white shirts. It was only a matter of time before we would find out where our new home would be!
Since I had an hour to spare before heading to receive my bid, I took a bike ride downtown where I settled my stomach with some delicious breakfast and anxiously waited with many others until it was time to head to the classroom where our new chapters would be revealed.
Arriving to the classroom, it took me a few seconds to realize exactly what was about to happen. I began to look back at that week when I endured scorching hot days running around Davis and meeting dozens of girls for hours at a time. I knew I would never experience anything like that ever again in my life.
The moment arrived. My Pi Rho Chi pulled me outside and asked how I was doing. At that particular second, I knew exactly which chapter I wanted to see written on the Bid. She handed me an envelope and as I opened it, I did not immediately find the name of the chapter. The feeling I had during those two seconds of uncertainty I still remember to this day. After those two seconds I looked beneath my name and there in the most eloquent handwriting were the words DELTA GAMMA. My heart dropped and I could not believe my eyes. I was about to start my college career with over a hundred new diverse women and become a part of a new home.
Leaving the building, I was so nervous I could not contain myself but I was so excited I just started running but with no direction. Being new to campus I was still unfamiliar with where everything was but as soon as I saw other girls running toward the Quad I knew that was where I was supposed to go.
I saw the huge DG letters and once I saw other new members just like me, I felt so much more at ease. We were all feeling the same way and now we could experience this memorable day together! I will never forget sprinting from the Quad all the way to the DG house side by side with all my new sisters and witnessing a hundred more sisters awaiting our arrival. I could not feel more special that Delta Gamma chose me to be a part of their family. I became a part of Delta Gamma then Delta Gamma became a part of me.
