April's 3rd Place Winner

When I was 16 years old my dad was diagnosed with 4th stage cancer and two years later during my transitioning time from high school to college, my dad lost his battle. This was and continues to be a difficult hardship to overcome, however the community I have surrounded myself with at Davis has given me the chance to bring the part of me that died with my father back to life.

Initially, I felt so lost and alone at Davis. I went through recruitment my sophomore year not o...

April's 2nd Place Winner

I used to laugh when my mom suggested that I join a sorority. A proud Gamma Phi alum, she always spoke of her sorority experience as being one of the best parts of college. However, having spent most of my high school years having very few girl friends, Greek life was simply not something I could see myself being a part of. After committing to UC Davis, I received a few emails about recruitment, but confidently discarded them.

When Welcome Week began, I started to meet...

April's 1st Place Winner

I have always believed that timing is everything and things work out when they are supposed to. So when my plane landed at 1 am the morning of recruitment, I knew it was meant to be. I was a student-athlete on the field hockey team and we were traveling to the East Coast to compete when I realized I was going to make it back to Davis in time for recruitment. I signed up instantly, shocked that the timing was close to perfect.

Growing up I always surrounded myself with peo...

March's 3rd Place Winner

Initially, I wasn’t going to go through recruitment. It wasn’t until I met my strongly encouraging roommate that I finally signed up on the last day. As I met all of the beautiful and sweet women in each of the chapters, it wasn’t until I entered my final house, Chi Omega, that I’d found the house for me. It was there that I met Ellie on the first day where we had hysterical conversation regarding food that made me burst into tears. It was there where I met Chloe who also...

March's 2nd Place Winner

The morning of Bid Day, I was extremely anxious. I was not sure what to expect for the rest of the day but what I did know for sure was that this was just the beginning of something that I would not regret for the rest of my life. After frantically getting ready that morning and heading outside my dorm, I witnessed a pool of girls each of us dressed in jean shorts and white shirts. It was only a matter of time before we would find out where our new home would be!

Since I...

March's 1st Place Winner

On bid day, I woke up with butterflies in my stomach. I knew that I had a great preference night with my first choice sorority, but I couldn’t help feeling nervous. What if they changed their mind about me? Or worse, what if the one I ended up with turned out to not be the right fit for me? Even with my nerves, I was mostly excited because I knew that my bid could be the key to unlock crazy adventures, great friendships and connections with amazing women. When I held the...

February's 3rd Place Winner

Every opportunity I have been able to share with my sisters has been more than amazing than the last, but I’d have to say that Disneyland with my family was one for the books. What more could a sorority girl want than to take a fun trip to Disney with her twin, big, and grand-big, three of her most favorite people?! It was the most perfect scenario I could ever dream up; throwing up our letters in front of the castle for that perfect Instagram post or sorority squatt...

February's 2nd Place Winner

We all sat in tiny circles of five or six, the chapter splayed across the backyard, sunshine beating down on us just a little more than we’d have appreciated, waiting for one of the Recruitment Chairs to finish explaining the game. It was late September, and as part of any good recruitment, we had mini sisterhoods, to get to know each other again. We took breaks in order to do these, and we all gladly took the seat on the gra...

February's 1st Place Winner

As a first-year student at UCD, I found myself being thrown into the week of recruitment without really knowing anyone in Davis. Thus, when I was placed into my house, I was thrilled to have a herd of sisters who I could call friends and confide in. However, I began to question if I was meant to be in my house. Sure, they chose us to be in our houses and the process is so detailed that I couldn’t help but trust it, but I have felt like I stand out like a sore thumb sin...
